ABOUT OUR CLASS
Sixth grade ELA students will embark on an educational journey where they will learn to read closely, work with evidence and understand perspectives. We will begin the year by examining the key elements of mythology and the many archetypes found in a hero's journey. Students will build toward writing a literary analysis using evidence from the text to support their claims and, eventually, students will write a hero's journey tale of their own.
Later in the year, we will consider "rules to live by", or how people create and use a set of rules to improve their lives. Each text that students examine will bring them closer to understanding the sixth grade standards, and, with hard work, closer to understanding themselves.

SOBRE NUESTRA CLASE
Los estudiantes de ELA de sexto grado se embarcarán en un viaje educativo en el que aprenderán a leer con atención, trabajar con evidencia y comprender perspectivas. Comenzaremos el año examinando los elementos clave de la mitología y los muchos arquetipos que se encuentran en el viaje de un héroe. Los estudiantes avanzarán hacia la redacción de un análisis literario utilizando evidencia del texto para respaldar sus afirmaciones y, eventualmente, los estudiantes escribirán su propia historia sobre el viaje de un héroe. Más adelante en el año, consideraremos "reglas por las que vivir", o cómo las personas crean y usan un conjunto de reglas para mejorar sus vidas. Cada texto que examinen los estudiantes los acercará a comprender los estándares de sexto grado y, con arduo trabajo, les acercará más a comprenderse a sí mismos.
